CITATION:
“For exceptionally meritorious service against enemy Japanese aircraft, shore batteries, mines and submarines. Operating in contact with the enemy and under direct attack, the U.S.S. BROOKS performed her duties as a high speed transport, consistently maintaining a superior degree of efficiency in the performance of many varied tasks. Operating close inshore within range of enemy fortifications, her crew and her boats gallantly overcame heavy enemy resistance in support of underwater demolition and shallow water mine clearance; and also the U.S.S. BROOKS contributed to the defense of other units by repelling suicide attacks repeatedly until she herself was severely damaged. Her courageous determination and effort were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”
