Tin Can Sailors Library, Somerset, Massachusetts, December 2011.
As membership in World War II reunion organizations shrinks, organizers consider where to place their artifacts.
Museums may be a first consideration, but few museums can be expected to display on a continuing basis the types of artifacts that shipmates leave behind. Another factor is the availability of subject matter experts. In this light, libraries present an alternative.
One such library is the Tin Can Sailors facility at Somerset, Massachusetts. Collocated with the Tin Can Sailors business office, the library is housed in a former post office, where climate control is assured and knowledgable staff are available to assist.
