Richard Delphy was appointed Midshipman 18 May 1809 and served with distinction in the frigate United States during the engagement with HMS Macedonian on 25 October 1812. Transferred to the brig USS Argus, he was killed in the action of 14 August 1813, which ended in his ship’s surrender to HMS Pelican.
