2 September 1945 — Transporting dignitaries
On 2 September at the Yokohama Customs House Pier, Japanese representatives crossed the deck of
Nicholas to destroyer Lansdowne, which transported them to Missouri for the formal surrender of the Japanese Empire while Nicholas transported 87 US and Allied Army and Naval representatives, the Buchanan transported General MacArthur and Taylor transported 174 members of the press.

Surrender
Out in the bay, Nicholas delivered her passengers and stood by during the surrender ceremony and flyover, then returned them ashore.
