Operating close inshore within range of enemy fortifications, her crew and her boats gallantly overcame heavy enemy resistance in support of underwater demolition and shallow water mine clearance; and also the U.S.S. BROOKS contributed to the defense of other units by repelling suicide attacks repeatedly until she herself was severely damaged. Her courageous determination and effort were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”

All personnel attached to and serving on board the U.S.S. BROOKS during one or more of the designated periods are hereby authorized to wear the NAVY UNIT COMMENDATION Ribbon.

For the President,
