USS Barry (DD 933), Washington Navy Yard.
Successor to the Fletcher, Allen M. Sumner and Gearing classes of World War II was the Forrest Sherman class. Derived from the Fletcher concept, these last all-gun destroyers mounted three rapid-fire 5-inch/54-caliber guns on an enlarged hull with greater freeboard forward for improved seakeeping.

The Forrest Sherman design was the starting point for the Charles F. Adams class, which had an even more pronounced sheerline and guided missiles.
