Herndon (DD 638), March 1943.
By mid-1943, standard armament included two 40mm twins in port and starboard gun tubs replacing after torpedo tubes. But ships continued to be modified in additional ways.

One common addition was three 20mm added in the bridge area: one on an elevated platform forward of the pilot house and one on the after corner of the bridge wings.

Some ships carried four 20mm singles on an enlarged searchlight platform abaft the after stack. Some of the early ships reverted to a 10-tube configuration.
