THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY
WASHINGTON

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION to the

UNITED STATES SHIP MAURY

for service as set forth in the following

    CITATION:

“For outstanding performance in combat against enemy Japanese forces ashore and afloat in the Pacific War Area from February 1, 1942, to August 6, 1943. Unique in the comprehensiveness of her service since the commencement of hostilities, the U.S.S. MAURY has operated continuously in the most advanced areas, penetrating deep into submarine-infested waters to seek her targets and destroy hostile warships, shore batteries and aircraft with her deadly torpedoes and gunfire. She has furnished powerful fire support for our landing operations and has covered our ships during retirement; she has provided sturdy support of troops and supplies to our land forces and has frustrated the enemy’s attempts to reinforce his own garrisons. Attacking boldly by day and dangerously by night, the MAURY has gallantly fulfilled her missions despite fierce Japanese resistance and by her readiness for combat, has implemented the skill and fighting spirit spirit of her officers and men throughout a crucial period.”

For the President,

James Forrestal
Secretary of the Navy
